Minnequa is a suburban neighborhood in Pueblo, Colorado, where pioneering merchants and other professionals of the Colorado Fuel & Iron company’s enormous Minnequa area steel works found a retreat from the bustle of the busy downtown.
This neighborhood has particular characteristics, such as buildings from a certain period, and shop signs are in multiple languages. This neighborhood’s residents have 3.8% Swiss ancestry, and the languages people speak in this neighborhood are diverse. The residents primarily identify their ethnicity or ancestry as Mexican. Lake Minnequa was founded in 1873, it supplied water to the residents of South Pueblo and also provided the water for the CF&I Company for their steel manufacturing. Today, Lake Minnequa Park is a large, regional park owned and operated by the City of Pueblo located in the southwest part of the city. It has a large outdoor covered pavilion adjacent to the Lake Minnequa Veteran’s Memorial Park Concession Building. This regional park showcases 16 acres of athletic turf fields, a 2.5-mile bike and walking trail, seasonal concessions, fishing, four regulation basketball courts, picnic areas, tables, restrooms, trail access, and ample parking spaces.
